We sat in the van drinking coffee, but then a hint of brightness appeared in the gloom, and within a gale-blown moment, moisture-loaded rays of sunshine cut a swathe intense light across the landscape. It was a battle to get down to the beach and I had to lean into the wind to keep upright and needed to brace myself to try and take photos. I could only manage 1-2 frames before salt spray had obliterated any visibility through the filter in front of the lens. I’d turn away from the wind, crudely rub the filter down with a cleaning cloth then turn back to the battle for another 1-2 shots. I managed about 5 minutes of photography before fast-moving banks of cloud hid the remains of the sunset and a wet darkness set in for the night.
